Arrow and Flash are paving the way for more DC shows, one of which is Titans; Dick Grayson, aka Robin, Nightwing, and Batman, will finally receive the recognition he deserves (you know you love Dick). His appeal is not only known to fans, but also by creators; in an industry that doesn’t generally make time for
the female gaze, Grayson emerges as one of the medium’s few male sex symbols. But what is it about the Boy Wonder that sets him apart among the macho
mannequins of comics? Is it his personality? His history? His
design? His butt? Grayson occupies an intersection of eternal youthfulness because of his relationship with Bruce; the generational divide between these two obliges Grayson to
stay young so that Wayne never gets too old, which makes Grayson old enough to be hot while young
enough to be desirable to many. The Teen Titans have Robin at the core, but the transformation into Nightwing is basically a graduation into manhood. Grayson may be eye candy, but he also has charm and confidence, so even without his costume, you can’t undermine his appeal. Grayson is popular because he’s well-rounded and designed to be sexy. In a genre in which males get most of the
character development and females get most of the ass-shots, he’s in the unusual position of getting both.
