Look at that, sure it took me half a year, but back into the swing of things just like that! It’s been a minute since my coveted movie posts, but best believe I have a lot of backlog to get through, just because I haven’t been writing, does not mean I haven’t been watching!
Enter The Gentlemen, which was presented to me as a gangster movie, about a turf war, where the vice of choice, is weed. But just like an onion, this is literally only the top level. When I first saw the trailer, I was like hmm, thats interesting, but after watching the film? Let’s just say its a wild fucking ride.
Let’s give you the break down. Our Protaganist is Mickey Pearson, Druglord supreme, and his amazing wife, Rosalyn, who is so much more than a pretty face. Literally she became my favorite character, and she was actually utilized as a strong female character.
Raymond, his lovable right hand Mann, and Fletcher, a reporter, and our narrator for this film. Pearson is growing tired of managing his weed empire and is looking to unload it, lock stock and barrel to the right minded business man of course.
Once this has been established the train goes completely off the rails, and we are literally hanging on for dear life until the end. It doesn’t slow down, it does’t apologize, and when it does stop, you are marveling at how all the little twists come together in a beautiful bow of a gangster film.
I can guarantee you three things with this film. You’ll marvel at the autonomy Rosalyn is afforded, as a female character in this film. You’ll laugh at the funny parts. Finally, the end justifies the means.
I highly recommend this film, and it has earned itself a spot on my movie purchase list, a coveted spot if I do say so myself. I’ve been doing better about not including spoilers so my Cinema posts will be much shorter than you are used to, hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy many more of them since their now safer to digest.
