Series #71: AHS 1984

Hey Gang!

Thanks to my little sisters tenacity, I finished an American Horror Story Season. I tried to give it a go during Murder House, but there were some content I just couldn’t deal with. I tried to give it another chance, during the coven season, but I just couldn’t deal with the tone of the series and the way they treated people of color in the season.

The one thing I definitely enjoyed about this season versus any of their other ones was the references. I am a huge fan of cheesy horror movies. The 80’s are definitely my favorite decade of scary movies to watch, and there was no shortage of references and call backs to movies, and television shows in horror that came before.

1984, follows a group of young professionals, who meet at an aerobics studio, wanting to catch a break from the big city, and decide to be counselors for a summer camp. However, the Summer Camp has a macabre history of multiple serial killers, and killing sprees.

About 20 years before they got there, was a massacre, carried out by Mr. Jingles. He killed all the counselors, cut off their ears, and strung them together to wear as jewelry. Only one counselor survived, and She’s the one thats decided to reopen the camp. She refuses to be scared anymore, and wants to make sure that the only counselors know it.

There’s a unique cast of characters, each with their own motivation for what they do and also their own secrets. Think of it as a Scary Movie on Steroids in the best way possible. The loose end tying alone, makes this series worthy of watching, and everything else you’ll experience is honestly just a bonus.
