Hello There!
Not only am I alive and well, but I’m back with a new finished series! I finally caught up with the last few episodes of Nancy Drew I had missed, and want to talk to you guys about my feeelings, because man, I’ve got some feels.
So lets start at the beginning. I am so in love with the diversity in this show, George, Nick, Captain McGinnis? Um yes please! Now granted, I definitely wasn’t a fan of the characters at the beginning, it definitely took some getting used to, but the character growth in this season alone, is something to be proud of.
I definitely didn’t think that Ace would end up being my favorite character, but then again we never really know do we? Nancy also grew on me as a character, in the beginning there were many videos where I mentioned she didn’t really feel like Nancy. I’m glad she grew into her name sake.
One of the biggest things I enjoyed about this series, was its level of seriousness. You encountered murderers, serial killers, and supernatural encounters, which I never expected to find in Nancy Drew. Just like the gang from Scooby Doo, She was never one for ghosts. I think putting the location in a small town nearby, and having things like the historical society, give the foundation for things that can’t quite be explained to be used as vehicles to drive the plot along.
It doesn’t feel like a cop out, it feels like it actually moves the story along. It also helps with the diversity, because there are all kinds of legends, and folklore for all kinds of people, and I really like how they took multiple legends into account. I’m actually really looking forward to seeing More supernatural mysteries in the future.
I remember being pretty confused on where the story was going around episode 7 or so, but they really did wrap it up nicely in the last few episodes. Finding the Bones, confronting the killers, and finding the actual truth, which I loved, I called the mother daughter thing, but I definitely didn’t call the partnership between Karen and Dodd. It’s always nice to find a television show that you can’t predict.
I’m very interested in the fact that they didn’t stay with the quintessential couples in this one, and I’m very much looking forward to a future that has a George and nick pairing in it. Plus Nancy and Owen?! The best slow burn I’ve seen in ages. I hope they don’t get rid of the supernatural aspect in the following seasons, they’ve written it in such a way, that it almost would feel weird about it.
Although I definitely had my reservations at the beginning of the season, I definitely want to see what direction they take season 2. They only have one hanging thread right now, and I can’t wait to see how that pans out, especially with the new couples in their blossoming stages.
