Novels #42 : Favorite Erotica Tropes

Hey Gang!

Let’s learn about each other today! I love to read and usually I have three genre go to’s. Mysteries, Fantasy and Erotica. Erotica is usually known as smut, but its really the same thing. I LOVE reading erotica, its something you don’t need to be ready for and just plunge both feet into.

I feel like the main thing that stops me from finishing novels, is that I almost have to take a deep breath and get ready for them, instead of being like OOH, a book, yes lets read it! Which I feel is whats happening with my April TBR /Owls, but there’s still three days in the month, who knows!

I want to talk about my favorite smutty tropes, because over the weekend, it was Smutathon, even though I missed it, I will be reading quite a few smutty novels in May, and I thought it would be a good primer for you, who may be new to my content and very confused about the sudden turn of events. Also, can we talk about the fact that in 4 days it will be MAY? Where has the year gone?

Daddy Kink

I’m blushing just thinking about writing this but it is out here now, so we just need to push on. There are lots of different branches of Daddy Kink. Daddy Dom, Daddy/LG and plenty more. The one I’m talking about is Daddy Dom, there’s just something super sexy about having an intelligent man, who has nothing but love for you, tell you exactly what he’s going to do to get you off. A book that does this well is, Paid for by Alexa Riley.

Consensual Non-consent

Commonly known as Rape-Play, it’s obvious that this is a much better name for it. I enjoy when it is clear that both characters are into this, and make a point of talking about what they do and don’t want in their sessions. I enjoy it because its a hot read, the book I think does it best, is Desperate Measures by Katee Roberts. I think this is a kink that underlines a lot of girls who were born in the 90’s and experienced Light BDSM in the form of Jafar and Jasmine in Red.

Professor / Student

I think this one is definitely a commonly loved trope. There is just something so sexy about an intelligent partner. Generally I read a male teacher and female student, but intelligence is definitely a sexy trait, no matter what gender actually carries it. There’s also the bit of naughtiness from the power dynamic that exists as well. My favorite book that does this well is Misadventures with a Professor by Sierra Simone.

Claiming

I’m not sure about everyone else, but my entry was definitely those Supernatural romance novels of the early 2000s, L.J. Smith which evolved into Laurell K. Hamilton, which is exactly what I’m talking about. Those paranormal novels, where the werewolf or Vampire claims their mate in the most primal way possible, yeah, you know the ones. My favorite would be Taken by V.M. Black. A book I hope does it well is Growling for more by Alexa Riley, which I’ll be reading for May.
