Cinema #85: Enola Holmes

Hey Gang!

Welcome to October can you believe it’s already here? I can’t October has always been one of my favorite months of the year, and it always contains my favorite content. Halloween Esque nonsense. Originally I had all the Fridays in October set to stream on twitch, but as only my life could do. My capture card stopped function on the 2nd, so I have to put that on hold until I can get a new one, so instead I bring you, a movie post!

Enola Holmes is a film based off a book series by Nancy Springer, I haven’t read any of the novels, but I would say they’re middle grade. I came across the trailer for the movie on Facebook, and I was like oh! I have to watch this. So I logged into Netflix and added it to my watchlist, and there it sat until Saturday!

Enola Holmes is about Enola, the less known about younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. She is taught, loved, and taken care of by her mother Eudoria, until one day she wakes up to find her mother is missing! Enola is a bit different from other girls her age, homeschooled by her mother, she is incredibly intelligent, feminist AF, and proficient in ciphers and jujitsu!

With her mother missing, she has no choice but to enlist the help of her brothers, which proves to be much more bother than she really wanted. With the threat of finishing school looming over her, she decides the only way to find her mother is to do it herself. So off she goes!

One the way she meets a cast of uniquely British characters, a love interest to die for, and cements her place within London’s Epicenter. I absolutely loved this, I’ve heard it was super well-received, and that Henry Cavil and Millie are in talks for several sequels, and I really hope that Netflix takes them up on that.

Henry as Sherlock really grew on me, but that man is SWOLE to be a high-functioning Opiate addict that is for sure, hopefully, we’ll just gloss over that and he can stay as wholesome as he is in this film. I instantly fell in love with Enola in the trailer, and I was so excited to tell you that she does not disappoint. I wish I had grown up with Enola as a role model, I feel like every child should just be exposed to that kind of freedom.

This movie definitely deserves some sequels, and I’m now on my way to go get the first novel from the library! Have you read or seen Enola Holmes? Let’s talk about it on Twitter!

Until Next Time
