Hey Gang!
Here we are, in a brand new year with my first wrap up! I made the goal of wanting to read 55 books in ‘21! I think I’m off to a pretty good start. In January, I finished 6 books! I began reading 2 others, one which I DNF’d. I didn’t read any physical novels this month, due to the fact that 90% of my books are packed up for the move into our new home.

So it’s just been me and my kindle against the world, I really am falling more and more in love with that thing as the days go on. I read Volumes 1 and 2 of Rutabaga, The adventure Chef by Eric Colossal, They Wish They were us by Jessica Goodman, Vampironica Volume 1 by Greg and Megan Smallwood, The Haunted Library by Dori Hillestat Butler and Aurore Damant, and Chilling Adventures in Sorcery by Gray Morrow.

I’m so excited that I haven’t hit any reading slumps, and I’ve pretty much been reading non stop since the beginning of the year. The two other novels, I’m currently working on are The Silent Girls by Eric Rickkstad and The Naturals #1 by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I was really excited about These Vengeful Hearts by Katherine Lauren, until there was an entire love letter to Walt Whitman, who literature professors continue to spout as the best thing since sliced bread even though he was inherently racist, and proved it every minute he opened his mouth.
I know the character is fictional and there a lot of older authors that are problematic, but that doesn’t mean that I should continue to read novels that promote violence against myself and others who look like me. It really Ed turned me off from the story even though I was very interested in how it would turn out, I’m tired of just ignoring racism and prejudice, because of the time it was written in. There were plenty of people who were against slavery and talked about it strongly, the time does not excuse them. It’s something everyone should be cognizant of and not just the people who suffer through passive aggressive racism every day.
Here’s my wrap up and reviews!
What did you read in January?
