Arc #41: This Book Will Bury Me

Welcome back!

Two nights ago I finished Ashley Winstead’s latest; This Book Will Bury Me and let me tell you, I LOVED IT! My first Winstead novel was In My Dreams I hold A Knife and I absolutely loved that novel. It was the topic of my first and only podcast episode, I recommended it to every person that said they were looking for dark academia mystery vibes and it still has a special spot on my shelf even though I read it almost three years ago now.

The synopsis really grabbed me, I read 5 amateur sleuths and true crime and I was sold! Even though I generally don’t enjoy true crime. I like my horrible depths that humanity can drop to be purely fictional thank you very much. This fast paced thriller was full of complex characters and even twister plot points, I thoroughly enjoyed my read!

In This Book Will Bury Me, we follow a Florida College Student, Janeway, yes after the Star Trek Captain, is whisked home to deal with the sudden loss of her father. While home, she helps her mother deal with grief, take care of funeral services, and letting his star trek community know that he is gone. Her mother takes her grief and uses it as motivation to get herself back into shape.

Jane however finds herself falling down a true crime rabbit hole, and when a murder happens in her own backyard, she decides to take a stab at it, and finds something that she excels in. She seems to have vibe radar that helps her determine if she’s following the right threads, couple that with her ability to research and she finds herself being invited to join a ragtag crew that solves cases in the real world.

This ragtag crew, with their handles, techniques and unique thought processes find her ability to research helpful and they invite her into the fold. After getting to know each other, they come across the case that will make or break them; The Delphine Three. Three college students like herself, brutally slain in their home, in an idyllic Idaho small town.

When bodies begin stacking up and evidence starts to reveal a more unique picture, the team delves deeper than before to untangle the web. Everyone is suspicious and time is running out, the main thrilling plot of the novel, is the crew trying to crack the case, whether they are successful and whether or not you, the reader is ready for the twists and turns that await you. I promise you, that you aren’t.

I had so much fun with this novel! Winstead has done it again! This fast paced thriller, full of complex characters and even more complex plotting ticked all of my boxes! This Book Will Bury Me is released on March 25th. I gave it 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕 and will recommend it to anyone looking for a twisty thriller to keep them on the edge of their seat and their significant other concerned about the amount of gasping occurring in the other room.

What are some of your favorite thrillers to read? Leave a few in the comments below, but no spoilers!

Thank you so much Sourcebooks for the arc and thank you Netgalley for the opportunity. I received this book for free before release, but was not paid and this is all my opinion.

Until Next Time,

Gabs
