Series #93: The Residence

Welcome back!

It’s been a long time since I’ve written about a television show, not because I haven’t watched any that were worthy but because I haven’t watched any at all. Once I got back into reading, I fell hard, last year I finished 189 books but I don’t even think I watched a handful of episodes of anything that wasn’t a cartoon.

My sister is constantly trying to get me into something new and hip. Always recommending things that I tell her I will get too but just never have the opportunity and honestly nothing was peaking my interest more than my books so I didn’t bother. A few years of this, and she takes it upon herself to start bring tv shows to family night, where we catch up with each other, play board or video games and just spending quality time.

This weekends selection was The Residence on Netflix. I’d actually had thoughts to watch this series soon due to the fact that it was such a diverse cast and I love a mystery! So when she brought it up, I settled in for what I thought would be the first couple of episode maybe, I was so thoroughly engrossed, that I missed the call for dinner, twice. Of the entire family, I solely finished the season, in a 7 hour binge.

In The Residence, you are presented in with a state dinner in the white house. Tensions are fraught between the US and Australia, so they are invited to this dinner hoping it would help. We are introduced to a US tribunal which is all about trying to figure out what happened to our Detective, Amelia and is the death that occured was accidental or murder.

When the greatest detective in the world is called due to the jurisdiction of the incident being the Military Police. Our Main character, as a bird watcher, is excited to get to the middle of it. However, due to the president’s best friend, she is being given the run around and being told that the death of the head usher was an accident.

One of my favorite things about this season was how organized and well plotted it was. I was on the edge of my seat, collecting clues that I thought were relevant and trying to untangle the knotted web. Every single character seemed suspicious, and I was watching every single one to see just how stage pieces would be moved, which clues would be dropped, and what new information would be dropped for me to decipher.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good fun mystery. Its only 8 episodes, so a nice little limited series, for those who like to finish shows in one sitting, but not donating their entire life to binging. I really liked the diversity not only of the characters, but also in the motives and opportunities that each suspect represented.

Have you seen The Residence? Let’s talk about it in the comments. Preface your spoilers please!

Until Next time,
