Spooky Spring Recommendations

Welcome back!

I had this idea for the last several weeks and was worried that May might be a bit too late to talk about books for Spring, but because May has been just so dreary I think I’m going to be ok. Even if its too late for you to read them this Spring season, they’ll be around for next year. Spring has sprung and there’s nothing better for me personally than to be soaking in that sweet sweet sun doing something I have no business.

If this is your vibe, here are ten books that have the spooky, suspenseful side of those beautiful fields of spring flowers covered. The books I’m going to recommend made this list for a multitude of reasons. But the basics are that they either give me spring vibes, they are forest adjacent, they take place during the spring time, or they are bubbly in a way that reminds me of spring.

My reading has been pretty arc heavy due to my inability to judge whether or not I’l be approved for something and thus grabbing more books that I could possibly read in a month or two span. Has that stopped me? Not even a little bit. So the book list will be a collection of books that have been published and books that are on their way to being published. I’ll include all pertinent information.

This list is simply a list of books, they are not in order of excitement or the amount of spooky spring vibes they may or may not carry.

  1. The Invocations by Krystal Southerland. This Fantasy mystery novel renewed my interest in reading fantasy novels! You’re following three girls as they hunt down a serial killer going after witches in their own hometown.

2. Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees by Patrick Hovath. This graphic novel is about a serial killing bear who has to track down a serial killer in their own hometown.

3. How To Solve Your Own Murder by Kirsten Perrins. The first in a cozy mystery series thats a touch heavier than regular cozies. The Grand Neice of a woman who was told she was going to be killed in a fortune at the local fair, takes it seriously enough to investigate every single person she meets in order to avoid it. She’s Unsuccessful, and her neice, Annie takes it upon herself to take over the case.

4. Pretty Dead Queens by Alexa Donne. The Grand Daughter of prolific Mystery writer is pulled into a copycat version of the murder that occurred when her grandmother was in school and she decides that she’s going to solve it. This is immaculate.

5. The Lilies by Quinn Diacon-Furtado. A dark academia thriller about an institution full of rot, and the 4 students dealt with fixing it in a Groundhog Day-like scenario.

6. Bloom by Delilah S. Dawson. A sapphic thriller in novella form about a girl who becomes obsessed with a girl at her local farmers market.

7. Don’t Let The Forest In by C.G. Drews. Two boys at a boarding school are dealing with growing emotions and eldritch monsters. Trying to fight off the monsters, and stopping the encroaching forest and learning how to deal with each other and others, in this horror fantasy is exactly what my spring called for.

A Bonus inclusion: Grave Flowers by Autumn Krause. Releasing in early September, its a Macbeth-ish retelling, dark academia, Floral all throughout and macabre. Arcs are available on Netgalley and if not, you can preorder it for the 2nd of September!

I love finding time to get spooky reading done outside of October. I consider Halloween a lifestyle and not a simple holiday. So when the opportunity comes up to get spooky I’m down. Do you have any spooky recommendations for Spring? Leave them in the comments so I can add them to my TBR.

Until Next Time,

Gabs
