Welcome back!
I’ve really been cracking down on my growing list of arcs! For the month of May I’ve put away a few of them so I figured this would be a great post to go through and tell you about them. Generally I get my arcs through Netgalley, but I was sent an arc by an author this month, so I figured a roundup of what I’ve read and whats coming up next could be fun!
For May I read:
Aftermath by M.K. Ahearn. I was excited when I saw this being marketed. A Dr. Reid inspired romantic suspense?! What else could you ask for? Welp for once turns out a lot. For instance, I didn’t know it was no spice. Nomally that isnt a problem but the romance felt so lack luster that it was hard to believe in it. Then the mystery was very elementary I knew who did it 10 chapters in, and the pace was way too slow for me. I was still wondering where we were going at 70%. I wound up giving it 🥕🥕🥕.
Whispers of Dead Girls by Marlee Bush. I really enjoyed this mystery! A woman becomes a teacher at her old high school, and gets embroiled into a mystery. A teacher seems to be having too close a relationship with a student and with some research realizes that same teacher has been accused of this before. When our Main Character begins to investigate, and finds two bodies she is determined not to have history repeat itself and takes it upon herself to learn the truth. But she isn’t ready and neither are you! 🥕🥕🥕🥕.75 and I’m super looking forward to what this author has up their sleeves next.
Evil-ish by Kennedy Tarell. A graphic novel about a Nonbinary character who wants to join the brigade to sew seeds of evil throughout the country. When they realize that the other members have actual evil agendas they’ll have to decide how evil they want to be and how far they want to go to create that boundary. I loved the art and it was a fun read. I gave it 🥕🥕🥕🥕
Raymond Chandler’s Trouble is my Business by Arvind Ethan David. A well done graphic novel rendition of Raymon Chandler’s classic, Trouble is my Business. A classic whodunnit when Marlowe is sent a simple watch job but people start ending up dead and secrets are revealed. I love that the story was updated. It still had the classic noir vibe without the overt racism and I personally appreciated it.
Daybreak Vol. 1 by Moosop : A Super cute day in the life manga with a gay relationship and black characters. It had the CUTEST art! I gave it 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕 and I can’t wait to see what happens next for Marcus and Cog.
I was approved for :
Not Quite Dead yet by Holly Jackson. I actually preordered this, its her latest and her first adult mystery. I own every other book she’s published and she’s an autobuy author for me. I’m so excited to be seeing her at an event in July, and I’m hoping to get all of my books signed. It’s still pretty wild to have been approved for this.. This time last year I was rejected for The Reappearance of Rachel Price, so to get Not Quite Dead Yet this year is maniacal honestly. Think I may have peaked!
Death At the Luau by Mimi Gun. Thanks to Sunny Babe Pr, I have a finished copy of this cozy thriller about a girl and her detective boyfriend that work together to solve a murder at her friends beach wedding.
An Amateur Witch’s Guide to Murder by K. Valentin. This author marketed the novel extensively. I had been looking for it on Netgalley for months, and just when I was about to give up, it appeared immediately, and I was approved almost as quickly. A Nepo baby has been cursed, and it kills everyone around them. Enter Matteo, who’s been looking for a way to make some easy money. A comedy mystery sounds like a fun time to me.
On Submission by Michael J. Seidlinger. I don’t need much more than the tag line because this book sounds directly up my alley! A mystery where Scream meets Yellowface, with an A List Publisher whose clients start dying.
Grave Flowers by Autumn Krause. I belong to the Street team for this novel and just received the Arc about two weeks ago and i’m so excited to see where the story will take me. This is a Royalcore enemies to lovers fantasy and I’m so excited for this adventure.
Here’s What I’m currently reading:
My Father Always Finds Corpses by Lee Hollis. I’m currently 16% in, We’re following the adopted daughter of a dead police detective and a theater director. Who has just informed her, that his psychic sees her standing over a dead body, and now I’m waiting for the mystery to kick off.
Liar’s Beach by Katie Cotugno. I’m 40% into this audiobook, and we’re trying to decide if the accident that put Greg in the hospital actually was an accident or if someone will be coming back to finish the job and a bunch of people have motives to have done so. Got to admit that I love Holiday a LOT and look forward to what’s going to happen.
What have you been reading recently? Any books you’re looking forward to?
Until Next Time,
Gabs
